To review the ongoing preparations and arrangements for the Chhath festival, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with her cabinet colleague Kapil Mishra, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva, visited multiple Chhath ghats across the national capital on Sunday.
The leaders visited ghats at Mayur Vihar, Ashok Nagar, Kondli, Trilokpuri, and Vasudev and reviewed the status of cleanliness, lighting, safety, installation of tents, water levels, and traffic management. The Mishra also inspected several other ghats, including Sonia Vihar.

Speaking about the preparations, the minister said that the Delhi government has ensured all necessary facilities at more than 1,300 Chhath ghats this year. Officials from the administration, municipal bodies, Jal Board, police, and sanitation departments are stationed at the ghats permanently to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience during the festival.
He further mentioned that this year, the Delhi government has given special attention to the cleaning and beautification of Yamuna riverbanks and ghats. Every ghat has been equipped with adequate lighting, safety measures, drainage facilities, and medical teams were deployed by the Health Department. Local representatives, councillors, officials, and volunteer organizations were also present during the inspection.
Mishra said for many years, the previous government had imposed a ban on performing Chhath Puja on Yamuna banks. “Devotees, who went to perform the rituals, were even booked under false cases. But now, times have changed. This year, grand celebrations are being held on the banks of river Yamuna. This is not only a symbol of faith but also proof of the positive transformation and cleanliness achieved at the ghats,” he added.
“At a time when the entire administration and public are devoted to preparing for Chhath Puja, engaging in negative politics in the name of opposition is inappropriate. Every leader should come forward to support the devotees and contribute to this sacred occasion,” he added further.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Minister of Education and MLA from Janakpuri, Ashish Sood today inspected preparations across 31 venues in his constituency. In Janakpuri Assembly constituency alone 31 Chhath Puja Committees are organizing celebrations in coordination with various government departments to ensure cleanliness of ghats, proper lighting, drinking water, safety, and medical facilities for devotees.
Shri Sood said that Chhath Puja is a symbol of our faith and culture. The festival conveys messages of gratitude to nature, cleanliness, and discipline. He added that this is the first time Janakpuri is witnessing Chhath Puja celebrations on such a large scale, with all preparations at the ghats now complete.
He further informed that Chhath celebrations in Janakpuri are being organized at several prominent locations including Sitapuri- 2, Shani bazar chowk, 40 foot road, Dispensary Park, A2A, Janakpuri, Near at Bindapur Police Station, Uttam Nagar, Mahavir Enclave, Chanakya Place, Janakpuri C-Block Park, and Posangipur.
